What's In It For Me

This 2.5-day course is made up of a 2.5-day classroom lecture and discussion.


Participants will acquire knowledge on -

▪Sustainability terminologies and overall conceptual frameworks to apply sustainability in organizational settings

▪Application of best practices, tools and techniques to integrate sustainable practices and address sustainability gaps

Course Overview

The course will teach key industry players in the hotel and their inhouse staff about the GSTC Industry Criteria with Performance Indicators. With the aim to equip staff on best practices on sustainability actions, the course will encompass a wide range of practical and real-life hotel examples.

The course is designed for staff who interact with guests in everyday operations; it will include many practical level case studies for all staff including the management level. The case studies suggested here may act as benchmarks for practitioners and give lessons on sustainability best practices.


The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is a comprehensive resource for learning about tourism businesses and destinations that strive to protect and sustain the world's natural and cultural resources. 

 

Ascott Centre for Excellence (ACE) aim to provide hotels direction in navigating through their sustainability journey by working closely with GSTC to deliver practical and relatable programs. ACE endeavour to support the nation’s targets in becoming a sustainable urban destination and inspire others to act.

Course Outline
  • Understand the roles of GSTC and the GSTC Criteria.
  • Learn about and discuss relevant sustainability issues and tourism trends.
  • Understand about the focus of the Sustainability Hotel course.
  • Understanding the important aspects when hotels consider sustainability issues.
  • Become familiar with the Sustainable Management System with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Become familiar with what role each department plays in the forming of a Sustainable Management System.
  • Become familiar with reporting, communications, accurate promotion and access for all.
  • Become familiar with sustainability management principles related to destinations and discuss best practices.
  • Understand issues and challenges related to the socioeconomic impacts of hotels.
  • Learn about sustainability practices that effectively address the socioeconomic impacts of hotels and how challenges are solved (for example ‘local employment’, ‘community support’).
  • Learning about how hotels can play a role in culture preservation and presentation.
  • Protecting local cultural resources.
  • Responsibly promoting and presenting cultural heritage and traditions.
  • Conserving resources and improving efficiency.
  • Reducing emissions and avoiding various types of pollution.
  • Supporting conservation and maximizing benefits for wildlife and biodiversity protection.

A Certificate of Completion will be conferred by GSTC.

The Ascott Limited (Ascott) and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly train and equip industry leaders and professionals in Singapore on principles and best practices in sustainability.

It is imperative that participants complete the program and meet all the following criteria:

  • Participants are required to attain a 75% attendance before he/she is allowed to sit for Assessment.
  • Participants are required to complete and submit all projects, reports and tests (if any) as part of the assessment.
  • Participants are required to be Competent within 60 days of each module end dates.

***Enhanced Training Support for SMEs: SME-sponsored employees (Singaporean Citizens and PRs) aged 21 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.
