The course is brought to you jointly by GSTC and ACE, to train and equip industry leaders and professionals on principles and best practices in sustainability.

This is the first onsite GSTC (STC) training in Singapore.


-Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), manages the GSTC Criteria and provides international accreditation for sustainable tourism Certification Bodies.

-Ascott Centre for Excellence (ACE), is the global hospitality training centre of The Ascott Limited and a Continuing Education and Training (CET) centre specialising in trainings for the Hotel and Accommodation Services Sector.

Course Overview

This 3-day course covers the GSTC Industry Criteria & GSTC Destination Criteria with more focus on GSTC Industry Criteria with best practices. The course is organized around these themes that are applicable to the tourism industry: Sustainability Management, Socio-economic Sustainability, Cultural heritage Benefits and Impacts.

 

The GSTC Industry Criteria aims to promote the best sustainable tourism practices, while the GSTC Destination Criteria encompass the minimum undertakings that any tourism management organization should aspire to when considering sustainability in their practices.

Participants will gain knowledge on:



  • Conceptual frameworks to apply sustainability in organizational settings
  • Application of environmental tools and techniques to integrate sustainable practices and address sustainability gaps
  • Environmental, economic and social-cultural impact from sustainability initiatives
  • Environmental sustainability regulations and guidelines

Certification Obtained and Conferred by

By Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)


  1. Participants who achieve a 80% pass mark on the Sustainable Tourism Course *Exam will receive a GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
  2. Participants who complete the course, but do not take the exam will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by GSTC.
  3. The exam fee is US $75 per person to be paid directly to GSTC, and to retake the exam it is US $50 per person. This is done online, administered by GSTC after the course.




Course Learning Outcome

Upon successful completion of this module, participants should be able to:


  • Understand the roles of the GSTC and the GSTC Criteria. Learn about and discuss relevant sustainability issues and tourism trends.
  • Become familiar with sustainability management  principles and discuss best practices.
  • Become familiar with sustainability management principles and discuss best practices of hotels and tour operators.
  • Understand issues and challenges related to the socioeconomic impacts of hotels and tour operators. Learn about sustainability practices that effectively address the socioeconomic impacts of hotels and tour operators.
  • Understand issues and challenges related to the cultural heritage and cultural heritage protection and its impacts on tourism. Learn about best practices on reducing negative impacts of tourism activities on local cultural heritage.
  • Discuss the sustainability programs and formulate sustainability plan, develop action plans using the GSTC Industry Criteria and assess the effectiveness of the program by identifying gaps.
  • Understand issues and challenges related to the socioeconomic impacts of tourism. Learn about sustainability practices that effectively address the socioeconomic impacts of tourism.
  • Sharing of knowledge or best practices
  • How to formulate sustainability plan with the integration of GSTC Destination Criteria, develop action plans, assess the effectiveness of the sustainability plan



Pre-requisites
  • Company HR representatives must complete and submit a corporate registration form providing hotel and billing details, including participants' details for verification.
  • Tourism professionals who attend the class, must submit an implementation plan after the course.
  • ACE will follow-up with participants on the progress of the implementation 3 months after course ends.

CB Ramkumar (Ram) is an author, speaker, trainer, consultant and an entrepreneur. He is passionate about sustainability and has over the years acquired application knowledge in sustainable living concepts. He developed a model for sustainable living when he built and founded Our Native Village, an eco resort just outside Bangalore, in South India. Over the last decade, he has extended his expertise to sustainable living – including topics such as sustainable food, sustainable health, sustainable marketing and branding.


Ram is also a trained Climate Leader after undergoing a training programme by the Former US Vice President and Nobel laureate, Mr. Al Gore. In addition to being a regular guest faculty in colleges across India, Ram is a guest faculty for the Indian Forest Officers training programme for eco tourism for the Jungle Lodges & Resorts in Karnataka and the International Centre for Environmental Audit & Sustainable Development in Jaipur.
